Catching Up with Dr. Meaghan Dishman – Winter Edition

Happy Holidays! We thought it would be fun to have a little catch up  – Q&A style – with our Inspired Health providers, to see what’s inspiring them these days and what they’re most excited about in 2023.

First up, Dr. Meaghan Dishman!

Q: Tell us about a book, podcast, or show (or all three!) that has captured your attention lately

NON-FICTION BOOK:

Jayson Gaddis – Getting to Zero (How to Work Through Conflict in Your High-Stakes Relationships)

MD: I value relationships above everything else, and am always seeking to better understand and gain tools on how to enhance the amazing relationships I have in my life, as well as provide feedback for the patients I work with. I love how practical this book is – and wish I had this in my hands decades ago.

Those of us in the world of optimizing self / health have a ton of awesome tools for self-cultivation, but don’t always remember to cultivate ways to practically incorporate this into our valued (high stakes) relationships. With Covid really shaking up everyone’s realities the last few years, I’ve noticed many relationships grow stronger, but sadly a higher percentage are failing. I’d recommend this book to anyone struggling in their relationships, or wanting to gain tools on how to prevent struggle in their relationships.

FICTIONAL BOOK:

MD: I just picked up local Bend Author Shea Earnshaw’s newly released book, A Wilderness of Stars, and can’t wait to read it! I preordered a signed copy and everything.

I accidentally stumbled upon Shea early this year, and I’ve literally devoured ALL of her books since then. They’ve been a beautiful fictional escape from my studies, and nerdier science based or self-help style books. It’ll be nice to round out the year finishing this new book!

PODCAST:

Huberman Lab – Episode 86 – What Alcohol Does to Your Body, Brain & Health

MD: So many folks fall down the slippery slope of overconsumption of alcohol, and it’s hard to bear witness to as a friend, and also as a doctor who examines the chronic disease outcomes on labs of even moderate alcohol consumers. I’ve never been one to drink more then 2-4 drinks per week at the most, but went alcohol free in October 2020 as a response to the overconsumption I was witnessing in friends, family and patients during the lockdown of Covid. It’s been a journey ever since.

I never realized how much bypassing of discomfort I was accustomed to with even one drink to “wind down.” Having had a Meditation / Mindfulness practice for 30 years now, watching the upleveling that has occurred since removing alcohol has been literally and figuratively mind blowing. My heart and mind are able to access new resonant states in my daily meditations much quicker and on a more regular basis. For now, I’m digging the journey…

SHOW:

MD: Well, I’m a fan of Yellowstone and love watching this with my husband – plus we’re just in the beginning of the new season! It’s pure entertainment, not much enlightenment gained from it per se – but I love it 🙂 As someone who is constantly reading, studying, and listening to information, it’s really nice to just be entertained!

Q: Name your favorite winter activity

MD: Snowboarding – I love to play in the snow on the Mountain with my family and friends!

Q: What’s your go-to snack when you’re adventuring outside in the winter?

MD: I’m honestly always switching it up with my snacks…but if you know me, you know my always favorite snack is an APPLE (Honeycrisp or Fuji are my faves)!

Right now I’m also digging: Munk Pack – Keto Nut & Seed Bars (Dark Chocolate Sea Salt flavor and Coconut Cocoa Chip flavor), Perfect Bar (Chocolate Chip). I don’t like to carry a bunch…

Q: Name a song you have on repeat lately

MD: Spotify told me my Most Played song of the year was: Wild by Spoon

Q: What’s your favorite holiday tradition?

MD: Being with family. Making pie with my kiddos – it’s a once-a-year thing, and they LOVE pie, so it’s super fun to literally make 5-6 pies for them.

Q: What are you most looking forward to in 2023?

MD: Watching a big personal project unfold in 3D that I’ve devoted thousands of hours to for the last two years.  More Feng Shui studying, meditation / Qi Gong retreats, and more adventures with my family & friends!

Thanks Dr. Dishman! Happy Holidays!
