Make Matcha with Michelle!
Matcha Tea is a powdered green tea grown traditionally in Japan, known for its prized flavor and unique chemical composition. It is often considered the highest quality tea and it boasts many healthful benefits. Matcha is high in antioxidant compounds such as catechins, phenolic acids, rutin, quercetin, Vitamin C and chlorophyll. Caffeine content in Matcha is much less than coffee but is higher than other green teas and can range between 18-44 mg of caffeine/cup. Matcha also contains the amino acid theanine, which is known to produce relaxed concentration.
Other beneficial powers of this tea show that it is:
- Anti-inflammatory
- Cardioprotective
- Antiviral
Let’s mix up a cup of classic Matcha!
Matcha Latte Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 to1.5 tsp Matcha powder- we personally love Mizuba Matcha.
- 1 oz boiling water (160 degree Fahrenheit)
- 6 oz milk of choice (heated to about 150 degrees) – my personal fave is coconut
Instructions:
Mix the matcha powder and 1 oz of hot water in a bowl and use the bamboo whisk to whisk until smooth. This should be a paste like consistency with no clumps. Pour into your cup. Then pour the heated milk of choice into your cup and whisk again for 15-20 seconds until frothy.
Important notes:
For quality purposes, make sure your Matcha is third party tested for chemicals, ceremonial/food grade and organic.
